Mastic Asphalt

  • Roofing
  • Flooring
  • Tanking
  • Paving

Mastic asphalt has been successfully used as a waterproofing material for many years. It is impervious to rot, vermin and can be regarded as virtually incombustible. Properly laid mastic asphalt can be expected to last for over 30 years and is widely used as a waterproofing material in roofing. It is also the ultimate material for below ground tanking where confined within a properly designed environment it will achieve the strength of the materials confining it and will therefore last indefinitely.

Modern day multi-storey car parks often take advantage of the excellent durability and ability to support vehicular traffic which is an inherent advantage of the material.

Flooring grade mastic asphalt is a favoured choice within the brewery industry where the need for hygiene is paramount mastic asphalt can be hosed down frequently without the problems associated with other products of water seeping through to areas beneath the floor. It is unaffected by detergents and other cleaning solutions.

Built Up Felt Roofing

The history of multi layer felt systems has been a chequered one, in the past these systems have received a sometimes justified bad press. In defence of yesteryears felt systems in must be mentioned that most of the problems can be attributed to poor design and installation.

Modern generation felt systems are however 'light years' better than their ancestors. The introduction of polymer modified bitumens and polyester fleece reinforcements has resulted in products with exceptional characteristics. Some of these are able to accommodate enormous fluctuations in temperature and will absorb substantial amounts of movement within the substrate. When combined with thermal insulation and lightweight building components modern felt products can provide a unique and cost effective solution. A further advantage is the extended colour range and surface appearance available with some products.

Kingsley Roofing benefit from a management team with over forty years experience with felt roofing systems and have developed a comprehensive knowledge of products and materials through their network of leading material manufacturers. This enables the company to provide extended insurance backed guaranties through its links with the best suppliers within the industry and as a consequence enables us to participate with the manufacturers in developing the right specifications for all projects.

Single Ply Membranes

Single ply membranes are a relatively new product and are available in several variants. The most common comprise of a combination of man made plastics but there are rubber based systems available also.

The advantages of these materials are the speed of laying and as result are often favoured by construction companies for roofing very large areas such as supermarkets.

These products are extremely tough and represent what some would regard as the cutting edge of modern technology.

Various solutions have been developed for fixing these products, from gluing to mechanical fixing and even the use of Velcro. The seams are usually welded together by hot air gun or glued and this is probably the most crucial phase of the installation procedure. Most manufacturers run courses for teaching operatives to adopt the correct laying techniques and supply a certificate of competency on completion of the course. No one should lay these membranes without being an improved installer and indeed guarantees are only available to improved installers.

Kingsley Roofing have fully trained and experienced fitters available.
